Calculator methodology and editorial policy

Understand how formulas, defaults, examples, revisions, privacy wording, downloads, and disclaimers are maintained.

Formula policy

Calculators use visible arithmetic based on user inputs. Margin pricing divides cost by one minus target margin. Break-even calculations use contribution after variable cost. Loan payment uses the standard fixed-payment amortization formula. Straight-line depreciation is an economic planning method and not a tax determination.

When a calculation cannot produce a defensible result—such as zero production, negative contribution, salvage above purchase price, or incomplete required inputs—the interface shows an error instead of a positive verdict.

Default-value policy

Defaults are examples for interface testing and explanation. They are not local rates, market averages, recommendations, or promises. Users should replace them with current bills, lender disclosures, supplier quotes, disposal fees, service history, fuel logs, payroll burden, utilization records, measured production, and contract scope.

Editorial checks

Each calculator must have a registered engine, finite default output, one descriptive H1, metadata, structured data, related content, a worked example, and a relevant disclaimer. Build tests check links, metadata, page depth, input constraints, duplicate titles, calculator coverage, and the critical margin and break-even cases.

Browser QA covers desktop and touch-mobile layout, click-only menus, theme persistence, calculator updates, save/delete/share/download actions, console health, and horizontal overflow.

Authorship and review

Pages are published by the Equipment Rate Calc Editorial Team. The site does not invent an individual author or professional credential. Formula consistency and browser behavior are reviewed separately from professional, legal, tax, engineering, or safety judgment.

Corrections and revisions

Material updates receive a visible revision date and sitemap update. Corrections can be sent to utilitycalcs@gmail.com. Include the page, inputs, expected result, observed result, and a source when relevant.

AI and search access

Public content is available to standard search crawlers and OAI-SearchBot. GPTBot is disallowed from training access in robots.txt. The site's discovery files help search and AI systems find published tools and primary hubs; they do not alter calculations or replace the cited sources and page-level explanations.

Review cadence and evidence

Owners should review saved assumptions after major fuel, insurance, payment, wage, repair, utilization, supplier, disposal, or regulatory changes. A dated invoice, statement, log, scale ticket, production record, supplier quote, or lender disclosure is stronger evidence than memory. The site favors a smaller set of current, documented inputs over false precision from unsupported detail.

Free equipment-rate worksheet

Use the formatted Excel workbook to collect ownership, operation, labor, overhead, utilization, source, and review-date assumptions. Its columns have preset readable widths, wrapped headings, frozen labels, number formats, and formula-driven rate outputs. It contains no macros, scripts, external connections, or private data.

Download formatted worksheet (XLSX)

Download the plain CSV fallback if you need a simple import file. CSV files cannot store column widths or workbook formatting.
